if high schools want to “prepare students for the real world” then colleges need to expect incoming students to already have a grasp on the world around them, the injustices around them, and what they can do to make that world better...

now that @UC_Apply isn’t requiring the SAT, maybe it’s time to start requiring students to take a class in social/systemic injustice. 3 years of math is great if you want to be a math major, but an existing understanding of social issues seems inherently more valuable than trig..

I took four years of math in high school and not once was that learning required in college. what WAS integral to my college education was social awareness in nearly every field I explored - theology, education, psychology, sociology, english, public speaking, etc.
