President Cyril Ramaphosa is set to unveil two R22 million bronze statues honouring struggle stalwarts Nelson Mandela and Oliver Tambo in Durban today.

The Mandela statue will be erected at the Moses Mabhida Stadium precinct, while Tambo’s statue will stand along the beachfront promenade.

The project, commissioned by the eThekwini Municipality, aims to honour the leaders’ role in South Africa’s liberation struggle and boost heritage tourism, though the multimillion-rand price tag has sparked public debate.
