This Yoruba chanting and praise poetry tradition will fade off after this set of nollywood actors. I am not sure any of the new age guys picked the skill. The Odunfa caucus grilled it into their mentees and students.
RIP Ogogo, I really loved you 😩😔 he worked until the very end. One of the founding fathers of Yoruba movies. I first watched him in Owo Blow (1996) and he still acted in Anikulapo (2022)… he’s been acting my whole life. The industry will never be the same.
a lot of people pick and choose when things are “African” and it usually only shows up in respectability politics. when we start talking about wearing traditional attire or natural hair in the workplace, African spirituality and our ancestors, they go quiet.
disney is so afraid to give us REAL films w a REAL soundtrack like this again. we need more stories about friendship, balancing family expectations, self empowerment and following your dreams. i cannot stress how much i crave this especially for future generations to see.
