Lately, I've been including this in my prayer: "If I'm not meant to have it, Lord, please remove the desire from my heart to want it, and help me find peace in its absence."
This is something I thought I’d never say. Honestly, I used to dread Lent. To me, it was just another 40 days of giving up coffee, or chocolate, or whatever I loved just to check the box, because I was supposed to. And when Easter came, I felt no different.
Last year was the first time I slowed down and actually asked what this season was all about, what it was meant to do within us. And I’ll tell you right now, that Lenten season transformed me in ways I can’t even explain. I felt farther along in my spiritual journey than I’d ever felt before…simply because I moved through Lent with intention, not just out of obligation.
That’s the thing, Lent isn’t about simply giving something up. It’s about making space for God to work in us. For 40 days, we are called to step away from distractions, from comforts, from the things we reach for before we reach for Him. It’s an invitation to become who He calls us to be. A very very beautiful invitation, but only if you choose to accept it.
