One name surfaced, then another, each feeling foreign upon his tongue. After several uncertain attempts, the Wraith finally relented.
When he spoke, his voice was quieter. “ I... I don't... don't remember... hhhk... m - my name... ”
The fingers of one hand tapped against the back of the other, still curled around the petals. For a fleeting moment, he felt almost human, as though he were truly meeting another person for the first time, rather than encountering another face to be forgotten within the Fog.

The urge to offer his own name came naturally. The difficulty was that none came.
His mouth parted, then closed. Again, he tried, lips shaping silent syllables as he searched through the fractured remnants of his memory for something that belonged to him.

Yet there was something strangely comforting in the sound of it. Dwight. The name lingered pleasantly in his chest, repeated once beneath his breath in a raspy whisper, as though officially committing it to memory.

It was strange to hear a name after a span of time so immeasurable it ceased to have meaning. Had the Wraith ever tried to put a number to the years spent in this purgatory, he suspected the figure would have stretched far beyond what his now fragile mind could comprehend.

━ turned his head to make eye contact with burning whites. a timid smile.⠀〝 you know... you're one of the first killers in this place to actually bother about asking me what my name is. it's dwight though... last name fairfield. 〞
That man existed now only as a distant recollection, his face indistinct and his name almost forgotten. “ W - would you... hhhk... hate me... 'cause I... I can't...? Hrrr... can't do it...? ”
“ Ggh... No. ” It was a burden he had long since learned to carry, though he could scarcely say what compelled him to h`rt others beyond the fear of what would befall him should he refuse.

there was still one issue, "besides, i know what the entity's influence does to us all ..." he had been here long enough to figure as much out. " ... are you saying you'd resist that?"
His mind had buried much of what he had endured, sealing away the memories of what had been done to him and what it had taken to turn him into the creature he dared not imagine.
Whoever he had been before the Fog was long gone.

“ Y - you're... you're nice t'me... Hhhk... I - I wanna know your name... so I can... can rememb'r you... Hrrr... don't... don't wanna forget... d - don't wanna... ”
An unseen tilt of his head betrayed his confusion; the Wraith could not fathom why someone would feel compelled to help him without expecting something in return. He had existed long enough to know that, brief as his exchanges with others tended to be. . .

. . . About what he was doing to them. A necessary distortion to preserve what little remained of his sanity. His pace quickened until he was walking alongside the other, silent as the fog around them.

. . . He could not shake the feeling that he owed him something all the same.
“ I - I'll... m - make it... up t'you... Hhrrk... make... make you somethin'... somethin' nice... Gghh... y - you'll like it... ”
The petals remained carefully clutched between his fingers, held protectively against his chest, their faint touch of color standing stark against the muddied hues of his cloak. There had been no direct exchange, and yet. . .

“ Hnn... Okay... ” Kindness was not something he'd grown accustomed to; there was something almost unsettling about receiving it, as though accepting it meant placing a measure of trust in another, especially someone who had most likely known the cruelty of Azarov firsthand.

. . . Not wholly his own, no, but dangerous all the same. No defense came from his lips, only the gentle lift of his arm, a quiet gesture urging the crow to take wing. “ E - even if I could... hrrrk... h`rt you...? Why...? ”
Hollow chest ached at the implication; though his body no longer seemed human, the Wraith preferred to believe not everything that had made him one was gone. How could they know? Only a moment ago, he had been on the verge of acting on impulse. . .

gaze flits from a familiar source that caused him pain to the bird so carefully held by that same source ... it stirs an expression of confliction on his visage.
A lonely mind, quietly yearning for the company of another.
“ Mmnnnh... O - okay... hhkk... walk... walk slow... no sudden mov'ments... Hrrr... I - I don't know... don't know what I'll do... ”
There was reason for uncertainty.
The Wraith had never allowed an interaction to linger for long, fearful that prolonged contact might loosen whatever fragile remnants of humanity still clung to him.

A rational mind would have deemed the risk unacceptable. But reason had long since slipped through his fingers, worn away by the excruciating t`rture inflicted upon both body and mind. What remained to make the decision was something far simpler, and far more pitiful.
