ICPC Denies Mallam Nasir El-Rufai Medical Care Despite Worsening Eye Condition

Reports have emerged that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai complained of swollen eyes while in the custody of the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC), but the agency failed to provide him with medical attention. According to his media aide, Muyiwa Adekeye, Mallam raised concerns about his deteriorating eye condition, yet no doctor was made available to attend to him.

This development is deeply troubling. Mallam Nasir El-Rufai has not been convicted of any offence, yet he continues to face restrictions that go beyond normal detention procedures. Denying a detainee access to medical care, especially when he has specifically complained about a worsening health condition, raises serious questions about the level of care and respect being accorded to his fundamental rights while in custody.

We call on the ICPC to immediately address this matter and ensure that Mallam Nasir El-Rufai is granted prompt and adequate medical attention. Every citizen, regardless of their status or the allegations against them, is entitled to humane treatment and access to healthcare while in detention. The continued denial of basic rights only deepens public concern over the manner in which this case is being handled.
