저는 한국에서 귀 질환을 치료하는 한의사입니다.
여러 병원을 다녀도 원인을 찾지 못하거나, 치료를 받아도 오랫동안 귀의 불편함이 사라지지 않는 분들이 마지막으로 찾아오는 곳에서 진료하고 있습니다.

"검사는 정상이라는데 소리가 멈추질 않아요."
"청력에 이제 더는 해줄 게 없다고 하더라고요."
그렇게 지칠 대로 지친 분들의 귀와 몸을 붙잡고, 다시 일어설 길을 함께 찾는 것이 제 일입니다.

사진 속 환하게 웃는 분은 미국인 친구 Adrian입니다. 처음엔 몸을 맡기는 ���도 낯설어하더니, 치료를 받고 몸과 귀가 편해지는 걸 겪은 뒤로는, 이제 제 미국 일정만 잡히면 먼저 연락이 옵니다.

"이번에도 꼭 보자"고. 멀리 있는 사람이 이렇게 기다려준다는 건, 치료하는 사람에게 꽤 묵직한 일입니다.

며칠 전, 뷔 씨가 오른쪽 귀의 청력 저하로 오래 힘들어했고 지금도 치료를 받고 있다는 소식을 접했습니다.
그 이야기가 이상하게 오래 마음에 남았습니다.

특히 그동안 자신의 고통을 "정신력의 문제"라고 여기며 혼자 견뎠다는 이야기가 마음에 걸렸습니다.
오래 이런 환자를 봐온 사람으로서 분명히 말씀드리고 싶습니다.

그건 정신력의 문제가 절대 아닙니다. 몸이 지치고 무너질 때, 귀가 가장 먼저 소리 내어 우는 것뿐입니다. 겉으로 드러나지 않을 뿐, 당사자에게는 결코 가벼운 고통이 아닙니다.

저는 뷔 씨를 진료한 적이 없습니다. 현재 어떤 진단을 받으셨는지도 알지 못합니다. 그러니 "제가 낫게 해드릴 수 있다"는 말을 하려는 것이 아닙니다.
이미 좋은 의료진과 함께 치료하고 계시겠지만, 혹시 그 과정에서 제가 가진 경험이 아주 조금이라도 도움이 될 수 있다면, 한 번쯤 몸과 귀를 살펴드리고 싶다는 간절한 마음으로 이 글을 씁니다.

사실 제가 이 글을 쓰는 데는, 조금 더 깊은 마음도 있습니다.
저는 한국 의학이 가진 아름다움을 세상에 알리고 싶은 사람입니다.

눈에 보이지 않는 몸의 흐름을 읽고, 사람을 부분이 아니라 하나로 이어 보는 이 오래된 지혜가, 누군가에게는 새로운 길이 될 수도 있다고 믿습니다.

그리고 뷔 씨는 한국의 음악과 정서를 세계에 전해온 사람이지요.

한 쪽은 세상에 아름다운 한국의 소리를 전하고,
한 쪽은 한국의학으로 그 소리를 듣는 귀를 지키는 일을 합니���.
어쩌면 연결될 인연일지도 모르겠습니다.

어떤걸 ��라거나 부탁드리는 것이 아닙니다.
그저 귀를 치료하는 사람으로서, 그리고 BTS의 음악을 사랑하는 한 사람으로서 드는 마음입니다.
세상에 그렇게 아름다운 소리를 들려준 사람의 귀가 오래도록 건강하기를 진심으로 바랍니다.

그리고 혹시 이 글을 읽고 계신 분 중에도 귀 때문에 오랫동안 힘들어하는 분이 있다면, 당신의 고통 역시 의지의 문제가 아니라는 말을 꼭 전하고 싶습니다.
