Midnight Girls takes a familiar OFW story and approaches it from a perspective we rarely see on screen 🎥
What immediately stood out was how grounded and researched it felt, weaving real-life experiences into a story that feels authentic and deeply human ✍🏼
Midnight Girls (dir. Irene Villamor) is a must watch. This film beautifully articulates the Filipino, diasporic, female, working class experience. It especially nails that feeling of alienation and quiet guilt of slowly drifting away from home while life continues without you.

Career trajectory ni Miss Jodi Sta. Maria ang gusto ko talaga for Jane Oineza as a fan.
Yung later than her contemporaries ang big break pero nung nagka break pasabog din, kaya ng pantayan mga naunang sumikat or achieve better. Yakang yaka ni Jane tiwala lng.
Sobrang ganda ng #MidnightGirls, I LOVE YOU SO MUCH JANE OINEZA 😭 i love saki too, the pain of doing the work kahit iba naman talaga yung gusto mo, satisfying work while questioning who you really are, and paris, gets ko sha so much, after everything you’ve worked hard for, hindi naman talaga masama pangarapin na maging disney princess nalang.
also salute to all ofw mom’s na ginagawang araw kahit gabi, at lahat ng trabaho na pwede papasukin just to provide, lastly for the young women who was brave enough to choose themselves than the love that’s holding them back.
“walang salitang tutumbas sa babae” is a nuanced way of describing the filipina working class. easily the best filipino film this year for me.
