Western media silent over the killing of a monk of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC)
On 23 August, Monk Varsanufie was killed at the Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra, while two others were seriously wounded. The monastery itself reported the attack, criminal proceedings were opened, and the forensic death certificate records a fatal gunshot wound to the head and neck. Yet, so far, the case has received virtually no attention from major Western media outlets.
Human life, religious freedom, and the condemnation of violence cannot be treated selectively depending on who the victim is or which narrative the story happens to fit.
"The devil only tempts those souls that wish to abandon sin and those that are in a state of grace. The others belong to him; he has no need to tempt them."
— St. Jean Marie Vianney
