I’m excited to be speaking at this! I’ll be discussing the English curriculum at KS3, building on KS2 knowledge, boosting progression to KS4, identifying areas for improvement and broadening the curriculum. Lots to get stuck into! @FearnhillSchool
In summary, look out for:
Friendly & welcoming culture✅
Good behaviour✅
Teacher workload/wellbeing prioritised✅
Quality CPD ✅
Autonomy & agency ✅
Strong results & Ofsted ✅
And if you like the sound of all that, @FearnhillSchool is hiring https://t.co/JyCPEMrnVL
🗓️It's that time of year when many teachers start looking for a new job. Here are my thoughts on 2 actions and 4 questions to answer before you accept any new job🧵...
📋Action 2: Check the school's results and Ofsted report. Both can be misleading, so don't put too much weight on these, but they can help with triangulation...
“We don’t agree with Nick Gibb on much, but on this he is right - we need a change in the discourse of public life”: my @ASCL_UK blog: https://t.co/D0bFVz2eWR
I noted on centre services that the mark schemes for the AQA A level physics exams are out.
Every year I sit down and answer the questions as a student would.
When the mark schemes come out I mark them honestly and see how I did.
It's great CPD.
Here's how I did... 🧵/1
Just listened to Keir Starmer’s big education speech. Some big ideas & as ever, I think the devil will be in the detail (which is totally understandable). Here are 4 examples of the pitfalls that need to be avoided.
The distribution of EYFSP scores in England, where a score of 34 indicates a child has reached a score of 2—the expected standard—in each of the 17 standards, suggests that the assessment system may not be working quite as it should: https://t.co/EEQFxsLM0k
Really concerning teacher retention data published today. 40k left the profession last year for reasons other than retirement. Highest on record.
Twice as many heads quit for reasons other than retirement than in 2015/16.

For instance adults should be able to answer simple questions like:
"If you are thousands of maths teachers short of required numbers + you've cut real terms pay for 13 years + then you introduce a policy that requires thousands more maths teachers how likely is it to succeed?"
Come and join a wonderful school with great staff, supportive SLT, excellent CPD opportunities and the students are pretty awesome, too 😉 @FearnhillSchool
I want to tell you something cool about our school:
For a number of years, @totteridgeacad was struggling, and we were heavily undersubscribed. Alongside that, despite low numbers overall, we had a large % of pupil premium (over 50% in some year groups).
