Los datos de Ceibal muestran una paradoja: cuando empiezan la escuela, niñas y niños rinden parecido en matemática, pero ellas usan más las plataformas digitales educativas y son más constantes en el tiempo. Aun así, al avanzar en el sistema educativo, los varones terminan apropiándose más de las herramientas de ciencia, tecnología, ingeniería y matemática, y se ensanchan las brechas de género.

La gerenta de datos y ciencias comportamentales de Ceibal, Irina Sánchez, advierte que no se trata de falta de capacidad, sino de cómo operan los estereotipos de género sobre las decisiones educativas. En áreas STEM, asociadas a mejores oportunidades laborales, la mitad de la población sigue corriendo desde atrás, y ponerle números a esa desigualdad es un paso clave para transformarla.
