If you have a top 5 farm system your prospects look different than most others. That means what you’re willing to part ways with is different than what other teams are willing to give up simply from a system depth perspective. Now consider the risk factor of a pitcher with a TJ, flexor tendon & nano scope procedure on his med report. How many teams are willing or in a position to move top tier prospect capital for 2 months of work with that risk attached? Knowing Skubal will likely test free agency you then have to consider whether or not your team would have a shot to extend him before free agency which is unlikely. That is where a proven willingness to take on the risk & make the commitment to building a sustainable winning culture like the Dodgers becomes a MAJOR factor. Dealing from not only a position of strength financially but also prospect wise, the Dodgers are a preferred destination for multiple reasons. Other teams deciding they will not assume the risk or invest in that winning culture in an effort to maximize their own profits becomes the potential windfall for a team like the Dodgers that WILL.
