The Lalru Bus Massacre (July 6, 1987)
The Incident: On the night of July 6, 1987, a Haryana Roadways bus departed from Chandigarh heading toward Rishikesh. Near Lalru village in the Mohali district of Punjab, militants trailing the vehicle in a white car and a truck forced the bus to stop.
The Attack: Approximately five to seven armed men belonging to the Terrorist group Khalistan Commando Force (KCF) boarded the vehicle. They took control of the bus, drove it to a secluded area, looted the passengers, and opened indiscriminate fire with automatic weapons.
Casualties: 38 passengers including men, women, and children were killed, and 33 others were injured. One of the terrorists was also accidentally shot and killed by his own accomplices during the chaos.
