We're delighted to announce Uyen Dang's "Souvenirs" as the winner of BWR's 2024 Flash Contest, selected by Intan Paramaditha!
In Uyen's own words: "I'd been thinking about the mobility of a wound while writing this piece, wondering about its traffic across history and bodies, and what forms it might take, based on its origins and destination. Maybe it'll present as pink in one place, a lip in another, then surface elsewhere as silence."
We can’t wait for our readers to experience this remarkable work of flash fiction. Look for “Souvenirs” in issue 51.2 of BWR, coming in early 2025.
Congratulations, Uyen! And our heartfelt thanks to every writer who trusted us with their flash (fiction, nonfiction, and everything in-between) this year.

Aside from all the layers of abhorrence here, I paused at how we are witnessing Gaza, in real time, becoming a "moment" in US lingo. Just as they say "Vietnam" to refer to, not the place or its people, but how they wrecked it.
We don't exist to name & mark your deranged history.

One day, all life in Palestine will be free. 🇵🇸
