Hello folks, I will be running the Philadelphia marathon and am raising money for the American Association for Cancer Research. If you can, please consider a small contribution.

@tiwarylab Paraphrasing my statphys prof - It's all about either measuring distances or counting things and putting them in bins. So you only need to learn two things.
Although what he did not tell you upfront is there are a million different ways of doing either of those two
@tiwarylab@venkatkapil24 This particular abstraction that one can develop quantitative descriptions of any dynamical system without knowledge of its constituents using experimentally measurable variables is often underplayed when it should really be the center of focus in a graduate class.
@CHHDellago If the chalk and board quality at the place where I teach were better, I would use them just for the advantage of having the notes for the entire lecture always in view. Using the document projector + paper + sharpie for the time being.
I am delighted to have been named as the Janet Dyson Fellow in Mathematics at Mansfield College. Janet has been a continual source of guidance for my approaches to teaching for many years and I look forward to continuing her legacy.

Have you got 2 minutes for the coolest application of Maths you’ll see all year? 🤩
Our fantastic Maths Professor, John Chapman @jon_ox has created this quirky & mathematically inspired photo of College in the style of Escher. In the video below, he explains how! 🤯 ...🧵
We have recently set up an initiative for Mathematical Sciences for Refugees and Asylum Seekers, in collaboration with Asylum Welcome. Click the link to find out more about what we are doing and a video of our efforts so far.

Designing a perfect #facemask is easy (not the t-shirt version). Yes? Well, no because you need to design the material in its rest state so it behaves as you need when in operation. @img_oxford (masked below) inhales in this @OxUniMaths Research Case Study

@rbhar90 Indeed. There are many problems in the quality area that can benefit from statistical learning approaches + automation. Need to build expertise in this area. Challenge for manufacturing firms is competing for talent with the tech giants
@rbhar90 To a certain extent current manufacturing infrastructure is off-the-shelf and reconfigurable. The harder/rate-limiting problems are a) setting up quality control through process qualification after reconfiguration and b) reworking raw material supply chains.
