As Physiotherapists, we have a great input with getting all patients up and out of bed. Working on an emergency floor, we assess and ideally get patients home or admitted to the wards if they are still medically unwell. #ThursdayMotivation#NHS#StayHome#COVIDー19@thecsp
More than a million people aged 60 and over faced waits of 12 hours or more in England’s A&E’s last year – new analysis from RCEM reveals.
And shockingly, the older a person is, the more likely they are to experience a long stay in the ED.
It comes following the publication of RCEM’s Care of Older People QIP 2023-24, which examines the care older people are receiving in ED.

“Care delivered in corridors and other non-clinical spaces is unsafe, undignified and unacceptable. It violates the privacy of patients and leaves staff without access to essential, life-saving equipment. There are no circumstances under which it constitutes good, safe care.
“What once used to be an exceptional circumstance, is now happening regularly in our hospitals. Health leaders and the secretary of state must waste no time in eradicating this shocking practice in the interests of patients and staff.”

“Asking patients if they take any time critical medication, and when their next dose is due, should be one of the questions every clinician asks. This simple enquiry becomes increasingly pertinent given the backdrop of the extreme long A&E stays more and more people are having to endure."
