Watching Buffie the Body on Tamron Hall reminded me how deeply ageism distorts women’s understanding of their own desirability. She was already in her 40s during her reign + nobody knew. There is a different kind of magnetism that comes with being fully embodied in yourself.
MEEK MILL CAREER DIDN’T DIE
ROCK ROSS CAREER DIDN’T DIE
THE GAME CAREER DIDN’T DIE
KANYE CAREER DIDN’T DIE
THEY JUST LOSS THE MAJOR LABEL PROMOTION MACHINE THAT WAS BACKING THEM FOR ALL THOSE YEARS
FANS THINK WHEN LABELS STOP PROMOTING A RAPPER THEY FEEL OFF
NO IT WAS JUST ALWAYS ARTIFICIAL
WHEN THEY HAD THE MAJOR DEAL
BECAUSE LABELS MAKE YOU SUPER VISIBLE
It’s really annoying as well. No other culture is copied more than Black American culture and it’s something they will deny while simultaneously copying and leeching off of it.
Being in your 30s is realizing you can actually just... leave. The relationship. The friendship. The room. The situation. You don’t need to stay anywhere that doesn’t feel good anymore.
