* interrupting your election doomscrolling *
I'm on the job market! I address online abuse as the next frontier of security & privacy, so all people using tech feel safe. Open to TT faculty/industry research roles in the US/abroad -- lmk if you know of a good home for my work!
💭 got an academic magazine-length take on gender, sexuality, and online safety? i'm guest editing a special issue for IEEE Security & Privacy magazine w/@kovila_c@eredmil1 and we want to see your thoughts!
deadline dec 16 -- just two weeks away 🔥
magazine articles can be a great place for ideas that might not fit in a regular paper, e.g.,
- provoke discussion
- inspire new research agendas
- systematize existing bodies of knowledge
- critique existing approaches
- offer original case studies or research
And the best paper award goes to: On the (In)Accessibility of Web Ads: Measurement and User Study , presented by Christina Yeung (University of Washington). Congrats!!!!

I've taken multidisciplinary perspectives to study tech & society throughout my academic journey. With much gratitude to my co-advisors @franziroesner@yoshi_kohno, I'm excited to graduate with a PhD from @uwcse in 2025. Don't hesitate to reach out online or catch me at CSCW!
My PhD research looks at societal forces like gender & social media to understand / respond to harms where security, privacy, & HCI meet. Deep dives incl. interpersonal abuse, image-based sexual abuse (e.g., synthetic nonconsensual explicit images, "deepfake porn"), online hate.
I'll be recruiting PhD students this cycle! If you're interested in working at the intersection of cryptography, differential privacy, and ML, please reach out.
I'll also be at @acm_ccs next week—find me if you'd like to chat!
RTs appreciated 🙏

If you know someone applying to a CS PhD this year - make sure they know of grad app support programs!!
Free informal feedback (on statements, etc) from current PhD students before formally applying. Kinda new, but great stuff.
I track them here (2025):

🧵after sharing my free PhD application guide, i also wanted to share several **COMPLETELY FREE** resources that can help mentor students through the PhD application process:
The PAMS Program application will go LIVE on September 10! Sign up for an alert to apply and be matched with a PhD mentor who will provide personalized feedback and guidance on your application journey.https://t.co/HB2LsSy3mq @uwcse@csenews
It's the week before my 5th year at @UTexasMoody starts, so I thought I'd drop some resources that may be helpful if you're in various transitional stages in academia. Today, I'm sharing a 🧵of the readings I send my grad students at different stages.
friday: memed 🥥🌴 my way through a critique of how we (me included!) study sociodemgraphic factors in security and privacy research, 🙏🏻 to @JaronMink
Yael Eiger @yoshi_kohno@eredmil1@franziroesner for their advice & collaboration through all my rants
