I’ve seen this in trading as well. I’ve meet traders who NEED to know the what, when, where, and why to almost any setup or price action move they see.
This is practically impossible most of the time so no decision is made vs the trader not needing to know everything and trusting the odds of the scenario in front of them.
I’ve also seen traders want to be a jack of all trades when it comes to every setup/edge they can find that it leads to being profitable on none of them.
Goal of trading is to make money. Not to know every edge or have all the information.
@MoistMango12 Regarding the IB glitch: did you have a hard stop in place that wouldn't fill or were you unable to market or limit out using a new order?
@mmonis Hi Monis, are you still relying on Bookmap for your entries and stops? I noticed you don't post bookmap as much nowadays.
Can one trade your setups (i.e. oversold bounce) without Bookmap?
Over the years, December and January have brought so many peaks and valleys.
In my early 20s, starting my career as a trader, I was struggling immensely. Working nights and early mornings, I was trying to stay afloat amidst massive expenses from my seat lease, surrounded by people making millions while I barely kept my head above water.
This immense pressure was tough as I tried to find my way.
Fast-forward to today, seeing others doing extremely well is great, but I know there are those struggling to pay bills and buy gifts, feeling the same anxiety I did as a young 21-22-year-old. That anxiety was so intense; I nearly passed out on Christmas morning, unable to give gifts due to financial strain.
I realized the pressure was more than necessary; I just wanted to succeed as a trader. Focusing on making a small amount of money and surviving in my passion made me happy.
By nearly 30, I turned the corner, paid off debts, and achieved multiple seven-figure years, owning seats on the CME, a large trading account, and homes. But then came new anxieties about sustaining success.
Coming from nothing, I didn't know how to handle wealth, leading to lavish spending and ego-driven trading, plummeting from my best to worst year. Not only was I losing money, but my assets were deteriorating too.
By 36, after a heart attack, the stress of these ups and downs hit me. Each holiday season, I remember how different one year can be from the next, teaching me gratitude for just being in business and enjoying life.
Today, with social media showing only highlight reels, remember many are in their valleys, just like I was.
Success is about being good to others, happy with yourself, and understanding that there will always be peaks and valleys.
Be kind, be helpful, no matter your year's outcome, because tomorrow offers a new opportunity. What's behind us is behind us; we can only do our best for what's ahead.
$NVDA - #TradeReview
I will explain in detail my oversold setup.
This is a result of countless hours spent studying the setup. Use it as a starting point and modify it as needed
#1 Always start with a daily chart, mark the levels in the following order,
a. Horizontal levels based on daily or weekly chart
b. Trend lines
c. Pivot areas (sharp direction change)
d. Unfilled Gaps
My charting convention
purple line - Horizontal level
Blue line - Trend and minor support/Resistance
Yellow box - Gaps (sometimes I use Red/Green to identify gap-up vs gap dn)
Refer to annotated Chart-1
Close to closing out the end of the year with over +247% growth in my account. From $30k -> $119k.
Mind blown because sometimes it felt like I wasn’t doing so well. Two names that made big leaps in my account over multiple trades were $CVNA $AI, 1 big trade in $GFAI, multiple 2-4R trades, few small trades/scratches, and lots of stop outs.
I’m grateful for all the traders, and trading pod I’ve connected with this year, they’ve been a big part of this.
Decided to go cash this morning. With the froth building up in the markets at highs, there were many warning signs this a.m. that I've been watching for since the beginning of this run.
A few examples.. Leaders starting to sell off on increased rvol after a big run up $APP $PLTR $RDDT $VRT $CAVA etc.
Failed breakouts.. $INOD $WULF $IBIT $MSTR $COIN (entire crypto basket) $VST etc.
Trash stocks starting to fly at the end of the cycle.. $RIVN $GXAI $VSAT $PLUG $GME etc.
Last my account usually balloons up at tops and I end up giving back too much unrealized if not monitoring for these signs. Whether I'm right or wrong, I believe I made the best decision with the information I had available at the time.
It's been a great journey for me as I'm crossing over $200k in realized gains for this year. I started this account with $30k in 2021, been through some very tough times where I almost quit, but decided to give it another shot because I just had the passion for it. Now I'm roughly 1/3 of the way to $1M in realized profits which has been a big goal of mine for a very long time.
Truly grateful for everyone that has been so selfless in sharing information, as I'm a product of tidbits I've taken along the way. Also extremely grateful to the traders I speak to regularly, the community you surround yourself with truly impacts you deeper than you know.
Wrapping up a great, and my first profitable year in trading. I started trading 3 years ago, and found my footing this year after I found @Qullamaggie
I grew my account from $10k to over $80k this year, and used some gains to pay off all debt and also put some money away.
One of the best feelings is when you can move a stop to breakeven. The next best feeling is when the 10-day catches up to your breakeven stop. After that is probably when a stock breaks your stop and keeps on tanking, meaning your risk management helped you avoid a disaster. Maybe after that, sex or something, but probably far behind the first three.
