@Alchomitzy@boonersports@NCStateGolfer more likely Allen assumed Skipper (who only played 2 off snaps all game) was the same guy coming into report just like he did in the 1st quarter, rather than Decker who played T all game and I dont think reported once. Not an excuse, but more context why lions coulda been clearer
@Alchomitzy@boonersports@NCStateGolfer And I get it they brief the officials on the play beforehand. But that’s at least 3 hours before this play actually happens. It’s a reach to say the ref should have anticipated 3 players coming up to him from different directions and exactly remember to report 68. It’s almost…
@Alchomitzy@boonersports@NCStateGolfer I think theres onus on everyone. Allen could have taken a moment to get verbal confirmation (if that wasnt already the case) And if 58 or 68 didnt witness clear confirmation then noticed Allen pointing at 70, that should be a red flag that he’s about to go report the wrong player
@Alchomitzy@boonersports@NCStateGolfer Im not absolving Allen of any wrongdoing. Maybe he was being complacent and assuming. He has two guys slowly walking towards him that are maybe or maybe not being vocal enough. And he’s got 70 running towards him doing some sort of signal. Among 3 players here, he points at 70.
@Alchomitzy@boonersports@NCStateGolfer Looks like he gets distracted by the even larger guy who’s running in from the sideline. Regardless, there’s no closeup audio/video showing who says or gestures exactly what and who Allen is acknowledging. Youre assuming facts based off proximities to the ref. That proves nothing
@boonersports@NCStateGolfer@Alchomitzy We cant dictate precisely who his eyes are looking at just because of the direction of his head/hat. Him pointing in the direction of 70 is what makes me believe he was actually looking at 70, not 68. Unless there’s another camera angle or body cam footage to show otherwise lol
@EricLloyd@coogrfan@Rudolph4Todd@MistairRogers You can also hear it in the background of the Lions radio broadcast. This is from a full replay of the game posted on YouTube. Timestamp 3hr:15min:04s https://t.co/oUDx6chS29
@areynolds_04@_MooseTreats@MikMcDaniel@NFLOfficiating He comes down with force so I guess so. Intentional? no. Forcible? Judgement call. I don’t actually care if this hit is legal or not. I think NFL is overprotective of QBs as it is. Refs showed that on Josh’s hit. But here are 2 examples on this thread of hits on Dak they ignore
@TimQ101@SiNuTrmon@_MooseTreats@MikMcDaniel@NFLOfficiating It sounds like yall are adding stipulations to the rule that don’t exist. It doesn’t matter if they tip a ball or aren’t attempting a tackle. Defenders are strictly responsible for avoiding illegal contact against a player in a defenseless posture
@SiNuTrmon@_MooseTreats@MikMcDaniel@NFLOfficiating I just said I don’t like it. Half of what the NFL refs call in favor of QBs is soft. But they have thrown flags for plays like this. And if they’re going to coddle Allen on the hit he took, then this should constitute a penalty too.
@_MooseTreats@MikMcDaniel@NFLOfficiating Rule says it should be:“Referees will be particularly alert to fouls in which defenders…use hands, arms,…to hit the passer forcibly in the head or neck area” I dont like it but call it both ways. Allen got spoon fed a 1st down in the redzone. Dak shoulda got the call too
