@angeladalton64 Sure but imagine if it was a decision on school-by-school basis. That leaves the burden on schools & parents to assess level of risk & communicate, which is ridiculous when the official emergency advice is stay off the roads.
⚠️All beaches are closed due to possible sewage overflow
⚠️All parks are closed until walkways, boardwalks and land can be assessed as safe
⚠️ All Maunga summits are closed
⚠️The Mayor has asked the Minister of Defence to bring in the Army to assist with filling sandbags
Disabled people have been sounding the alarm on the #ClimateCrisis for years. Yet our community goes ignored, only to suffer as predicted each time there’s a crisis, and be met with empty promises of “doing better” next time.
Disabled lives should not be a “teachable moment”!
Main challenge I’ve seen on the ground re:people accessing the civil defence payment is a lack of awareness + people not getting the full amount they’re entitled. Let your mates know the payment exists, and to ask for the maximum amount if they need it!

Spent the day at Wesley Primary liaising with members of the community and sussing out their needs with WINZ/accessing the Civil Defence Payment. Good to see @efesocollins here too! Theres been an amazing community led effort in Roskill, outpouring of donations and volunteers!
@dbseymour you have tweeted nothing about civil defence advice, rain warnings, or where to get help in the past 3 days. why is ur first tweet since Auckland flooded and people died criticising central govt????
⚠️ Sunday Blessings’s legendary Dani will be at Ellen Melville Centre off High Street 10am-5pm today for anyone who needs urgent supplies.
If you want to help or need it, here’s a non-exhaustive list of grassroots support across the city: https://t.co/TPwxAe9Vkn
Pondering this morning if this is yet another impact of the housing market and the precarity for renters: what would it look like to give new tenants good information on things like tsunami zone, evacuation points, flood risk? Triggered when a bond is lodged, perhaps?
First emergency management statement at 6pm Friday: "... if you live in a flood prone area, be prepared to evacuate".
Do renters typically know if their area if flood prone, especially for infrequent events? It's not like tenants get to see a LIM report before they move in.
Twitter is how I met my husband. How I found some of my best friends. How I learned so so SO much, & how I was able to participate in community & conversation when I was too ill to do it physically.
Thank you forever to everyone who was part of that.
@LI_politico I figure I got off lightly in the scheme of things. I'm still alive, even if long covid, which is fairly likely. I'm glad to be triple jabbed 👍
