We had such a fun time hosting a dinner party catered by @_yumbug. The team cooked up a range of amazing dishes made with their bug-based ingredients!
Here’s more about the brilliant work they are doing to create a more #sustainable#food system: https://t.co/8ziOPY0w0i

You’ve heard of a #plantbased diet, but have you heard of a bug-based one? Loved cooking up some cricket #tacos wit the founders of @_yumbug for my #InvestingWithPurpose series.

@rdococ1 @Ann4Truth@DavidRender16@Channel4 Unfortunately it’s not true that insects are eaten by poor people who are going hungry. Just go to Thailand, Japan, Mexico, South Africa etc. Prue Leith ate them as a child in SA! And plenty of other food options in those countries - so much so some have an obesity crisis.
@rdococ1 @Ann4Truth@DavidRender16@Channel4 Even if shellfish and insects weren’t related what makes it ok to eat a prawn and not a cricket?
Unfortunately there is no fundamental truth to say insects are inedible but other animals are. It’s entirely just cultural perception. A third of the world think pork is disgusting.
@rdococ1 @Ann4Truth@DavidRender16@Channel4 No problem at all if insects aren’t for you - it’s certainly not for everyone!
We sell insects to people who want to eat it (as is done in most countries).
@rdococ1 @Ann4Truth@DavidRender16@Channel4 3. Insects are so genetically distant from humans which makes it very very hard to get ill from them. You’re much more likely to sick from pigs or cows.
The other point is that these insects are reared in very strict, human food grade rearing conditions.
@rdococ1 @Ann4Truth@DavidRender16@Channel4 1. Insects evolved from crustaceans - so they’re very closely related. Give it a Google.
2. Not saying it’s all about fibre and protein - but they matter! Crickets also have more: iron than spinach, calcium than milk, b12 than red meat, the list goes on!
@rdococ1 @Ann4Truth@DavidRender16@Channel4 Crickets and prawns actually share common ancestors! The chitin is in the shell – so all shellfish are full of chitin. Chitin also exists in your veg, like mushrooms. It's actually packed with nutrition, fibre to be precise (really good for your gut).
@DavidRender16@Channel4 Hi David! Thanks for the Tweet! Interested as to why you think insects are poisonous? They're actually one of the most nutritions foods on earth. We love prawns in the West (which are really just insects of the sea!).
@Ann4Truth@DavidRender16@Channel4 Hi MrsL! Thanks for the Tweet! Interested as to why you think insects aren't for human consumption? They're eaten on over 80% of countries around the world – and we love prawns in the West (which are really just insects of the sea!).
@MW___04 @AldiUK@GBNEWS@SoniaPoulton@JamesDelingpole@beverleyturner@calvinrobinson Hi M! Thanks for the post. We’re just a couple guys selling the food we love to people who want to eat it 😊 insects are eaten in 80%+ of countries around the world so in many ways is us in the West that are the odd ones out!
@missssohara@AldiUK@Channel4 Hey Shannon! We're currently developing the burger recipe – but hopefully launching it some point after Christmas. You can buy Yum Bug Mince on our website now though, to cook up in all sorts of mince recipes. Hope this helps! https://t.co/KgYI7hSIuM
