Good Monday, everyone! 👋
For the next two months, I'm going to share my journey of building my idea for #Shipaton by @RevenueCat
I've had this idea in my head for a long time, and Shipaton 2026 feels like the perfect moment to finally build it!
It seems like a lot of people already had their projects ready and were just waiting to publish to the App Store. Meanwhile, I'm feeling a bit of FOMO because I'm starting behind. Right now, all I have is an idea and a bunch of research. For some reason, I thought everyone had to start on the official start date. 😅
I want to keep it simple, focused, and genuinely useful.
A few challenges I'm expecting:
1. A full-time job. I spend most of my day thinking about architecture, managing projects, and making decisions. Funny enough, that leaves me more mentally exhausted than coding ever did! My plan is to wake up earlier and commit at least one focused hour every day.
2. Corporate brain. Working in fintech has changed how I think about building software. I catch myself over-engineering things and wanting the whole architecture figured out before writing a single line of code. I miss the days when I would just build, ship, and iterate. Hopefully, I can find a better balance during this challenge.
3. Whatever else I'll discover along the way. 😄
If you've been sitting on an app idea, I'd really encourage you to jump in too 🙌
Let's build in public, learn from each other, and actually ship something.
I'll also be sharing more casual updates here (unfortunately lost my old account, so I'd really appreciate a follow).
Have a great week ahead. YOLO. 🚀
Day 21 of #Shipaton
I’m working on the onboarding flow, the most important part of the app, where users either get the idea and have that “bingo” moment, or just skip it like, ehhh, whatever.
And something funny just happened! This is the first and only time I’ve seen AI suggest completely unrelated code that actually belongs to Android!

Day 18 of #Shipaton
I’m jealous of people designing with AI and getting things done! Honestly, it doesn’t really work for me 🥲
It doesn’t know much about native components. Even the vector system (well, HTML under the hood) struggles to create legacy components and use them properly through iterations.
Look at the image in my post, all of them came up with a different iOS status bar, and they all failed to give me native components like Sliders, buttons with Liquid Glass, etc. (I get it, not a big deal to a lot of you)
I guess as long as things are rendered through HTML, I’ll never really get there. Pure design in Figma still tastes much better to me! 😂
Why am I so obsessed with native UI? I’ll talk about that later… maybe I’ll even record my first-ever video! 👽
But yes, overall for wireframing, exploring new ideas, and building a design system they all work pretty well.

Last year I watched movies at the theater that all won the Oscars! This year so far only Spider-Man and the Odyssey. There are so many good movies coming such as Hunger Games and Dune Part 3, so my Cineplex sub is back 😆
Day 13 of #Shipaton
I feel like I’m finally getting closer to the mascot! 👀
I know these are still pretty bad 😂 but I swear… it’s somewhere in here!
I’m using Google Flow to make the sketching process faster, but one thing is important: I’m not an artist or a designer, and I’d never be able to prompt an AI system into making a good mascot from scratch.
So I’m not trying to do that. I’m working with my friend, who’s the actual creative designer, and using AI more like a sketching/iteration tool to explore ideas faster. 🔥 NO AI SLOP!

Day 6 of #Shipaton
I'm thinking of a mascot for my project!
It's not a habit tracker, but it's definitely about quitting a bad habit, so... doing the harder thing isn't fun!
Maybe a little character on your screen might make it a bit less boring or lonely.
I was talking to a friend today, and she reminded me of something we used to do as kids: draw random lines and see what they turn into.
So far, not good at all. Just random ideas while I'm exploring...

Day 12 of #Shipaton
Gemini Notebook (iaka NotebookLM) is my good friend! ✨
I’m literally spending so much time with it... talking to it, asking for reports or podcasts, jumping into the podcast conversations, and honestly having some of the best research + thinking experiences.
With my busy life, it helps me stay focused on my idea. It searches the web for me, and while I’m still there to observe and make sure it doesn’t decide things for me, it helps me narrow things down SO much better.
I think this is the best AI product so far. It just gets straight to the point without all the noise!
Have you guys used it? What’s your impression? Anything impressive you’ve done with it?
