You wonder why we are called “a11yphant”?
It‘s a combination of the numeronym “a11y”, which is an abbreviation for “accessibility”. And „elephant“, because they are very smart animals 🐘

Websites exist in various #languages. Setting the "lang" attribute on the <html> element helps users and #AssistiveDevices, as browsers use this information to offer translations and correctly pronounce words when converting text to speech.

#a11y: Do not use colour as your only indicator for information! 🚫
This restaurant uses red, green and brown coloured dots to display the dietary info of a meal. There is no chance of telling which dish is vegetarian if you are #ColourBlind. The colours are just too similar.
Today, September 6th is #ColorBlindess Awareness Day!
Did you know that 300 million people worldwide live with colour deficiency? That's about 1 in 12 men (8%) and 1 in 200 women (0.5%).
The most common type is red-green color blindness, typically inherited.
