Pattaya Police Arrest an Australian at Suvarnabhumi After a Woman's Body Is Found in a Suitcase
An Australian man was stopped at Suvarnabhumi airport as he prepared to fly home, after a young woman's body was found stuffed in a suitcase and dumped in woodland beside a railway line in Pattaya. Pattaya City Police and Chonburi immigration officers tracked him there and arrested him before he could leave the country. He is Simon Peter Carman, 46.
Carman told reporters he had never met the woman and apologized to her family. By his account, they met near his condominium and he agreed to pay 1,000 baht for her time, but once they were in his room she said she was menstruating and he offered 500 baht instead. The two argued. He claims she pulled a knife and demanded more money, that he grabbed her by the throat to defend himself, and that he never meant to kill her.
He admits he put her body in the suitcase, rode a motorcycle out to dump it, returned to his room for his luggage, then went to the airport. Police say his account is only a claim. They are waiting on the autopsy and the forensic evidence from his room.
