The biggest disconnect in modern relationships is that society assumes men and women process love using the exact same emotional dictionary.

for a man, love and respect are the exact same word. They cannot be separated. A woman can deeply love a man, but if she speaks to him with contempt, rolls her eyes when he talks, or undermines his decisions in public, his brain does not register her affection. He only registers the disrespect, and to him, disrespect translates directly as hatred.

​Modern dating advice tells women that as long as they are loyal and physically affectionate, they are being good partners. But the unspoken lore of the male mind is that a man would rather be entirely alone and respected than in a relationship where he is loved but treated like an incompetent child. You cannot emasculate a man on Tuesday and expect him to feel loved on Wednesday just because you hugged him.
