@SarahEGabbai There's a lot of detail requested that isn't going to help provide a positive outcome for victims, plus would be ammunition for HMRC if it got into their hands.
Is anyone working for HMRC/HMT assisting Ray with his work?
Will evidence be redacted before HMRC get to review it?
@gregwrightYP@loanchargeAPPG In the last (non) independent review HMRC/HMRC had early sight of the draft outcomes and had them edited to suit their agenda. Is there any assurance that the same won't happen this time?
@DanNeidle@DanNeidle - What about where HMRC opens an enquiry into your tax return for a year that you used a loan arrangement then closes the enquiry "without revision" - surely that's saying whatever you've done isn't against the rules & you're free to carry on doing what you're doing?
LCAG welcomes unambiguous commitment to Independent #LoanChargeScandal Review from Rachel Reeves and, if Labour win #GeneralElection, look forward to helping Gov achieve their aim.
In spirit of commitment, LCAG urges all #GeneralElection candidates to sign #LoanChargePledge.
WHY? - Questions which haunt #LoanChargeScandal victims.
WHY HMRC...
..failed act at time?
..not collect from agencies?
..not act against promoters?
..misled MP's & Committees?
...interfered with Review?
WHY Tory government have not resolved in FIVE YEARS?!
@BillyBellyFat Note the #LoanCharge banner predicting "Lives will be lost." None had been at that point, but an arrogant succession of Tory chancellors and Finance Secretaries since @PhilipHammondUK and @MelJStride have callously presided over multiple suicides, suicide attempts and self-harms
@itcontracting@MattF77@ltd_clarity@seeleyharris@WTTconsult This is fabulous news. Effectively HMRC is admitting that recruitment agencies are responsible for ensuring that workers don't get snared by tax avoidance schemes. Should be useful evidence in upcoming court cases?!
Thank you @RachelReevesMP for recognising #LoanCharge victims were mis-sold and COMMITTING @UKLabour to INDEPENDENT Review if Government don't act.
Thank you @IainDale & Doug.

@MichelleMone So (as stated in the article) two people who used your husband's tax services committed suicide as a result? Wow....
How about a formal response from Doug on that?
"The Loan Charge is retrospective legislation; in other words, it changes a legal position that was in place years ago. Without the chance for people caught by the change to retrospectively amend their actions, it breaks the basic rule of law in the UK."

@HMRCpressoffice@gurpreetnarwan But HMRC also have a duty to act fairly and lawfully at all times.
Why didn't you immediately contact taxpayers as soon as you thought they were avoiding tax?
Allowing tax debts to build up for 10+ years, then compounding interest on top = breach of duty
@HMRCpressoffice@gurpreetnarwan I have just seen this staggering tweet from HMRC (screenshot below in case the original is withdrawn).
It is indeed HMRC's responsibility to collect the tax people legally owe. But the loan charge seeks to collect that OTHER people owed. THAT IS WHY IT IS SO OFFENSIVE.
@Ray_McCann55 No. The error #HMRC made with the #loancharge was implementing a retrospective, putative charge that totally failed in its objective, without any consideration of inevitable suicides, mental health issues, family breakups, and bankruptcies it caused.
@HMRCgovuk For the last 4 years you've been hounding me for money related to work I did in 2011.
Why didn't you question my tax return at the time? Or in any of the 8 years in between?
Sheer incompetence which you then tried to cover with the retrospective # loancharge
