They only stopped when met with armed resistance. Some survivors I met moved here and talked about it.

@TheTrueTankMan I'm gonna rewatch (haven't watched since 2014) but I remember thinking the 1994 series was more accurate to the book especially in character personalities and motivations. I think a lot of the choices for the 2010 series comes from 00s popular wuxia novels having clear villains.
