The United States just drew a definitive line against Beijing by declaring that a massive 14 billion dollar arms sale to Taiwan will move forward completely independent of CCP approval.

Today, June 25, 2026, Assistant Secretary of State Michael G. DeSombre testified before a House Foreign Affairs subcommittee, confirming that the critical weapons notification to Congress does not hinge on discussions or negotiations with China. This statement brings vital reassurance to regional allies after President Trump suggested in May that the package could serve as a negotiating chip with Chinese leader Xi Jinping.

The pending 14 billion dollar defense package includes missiles, drones, and artillery designed to deter potential military action in the region. This follows a record 11 billion dollar arms package approved in December 2025.

DeSombre emphasized that U.S. policy remains firmly guided by the 1982 Six Assurances, which explicitly state the U.S. will not consult with the communist regime regarding Taiwan's defensive capabilities.

Upholding these longstanding commitments is essential to maintaining regional stability and resisting foreign coercion. The world is watching to see when this critical deterrent package receives final presidential approval.
