Roger Federer says he lost the 2008 Wimbledon final at the very first point, not in the darkness of the fifth set.
"But looking back, I feel like I lost at the very first point of the match."
"I looked across the net and I saw a guy who just a few weeks earlier crushed me in straight sets at the French Open and I thought, this guy is maybe hungrier than I am. And he's finally got my number."
"It took me until the third set before I remembered..."
"Some defeats hurt more than others. I knew I would never get another shot at six in a row."
"I lost Wimbledon, I lost my number one ranking, and suddenly people said, he had a great run. Is this the changing of the guard?"
The five-time defending champion, on his best surface, spent two sets playing against a thought he carried onto the court from Paris. The reset, when it finally comes, is worth hearing in his own voice.
The lesson: your attention picks a story before your effort gets a vote. Check the story you are carrying into the first point of whatever you start today.

NEW: CNN vocally opposes the release of ‘Sound of Freedom’, a movie exposing the reality of child sex trafficking, calling it a ‘QAnon’ film.
Imagine being upset about a movie exposing child sex trafficking and thinking you’re the good guys.
“These films are created out of moral panics. They're created out of bogus statistics. They're created out of fear. And with something like Sound of Freedom, it specifically is looking at QAnon concepts of these child trafficking rings that are run by the high level elites.”
CNN sucks.
Michael Porter Jr. on Miami:
"They're hearing what we're communicating to each other and they're doing the opposite. If we say 'switch,' they're slipping out for open threes. If we don't say 'switch,' they are actually going to set the screen."

The last 25 years, finals minute of playoff games, on 3s to tie or take the lead, here’s everyone that’s taken at least 8.
I’ll let y’all peruse for yourselves, but, again, the narratives that we’ve been force fed don’t exactly line up with the data…
