June 28 marked twenty years since Major Stephen Reich (and 15 other U.S. soldiers) were killed in action in Afghanistan while on a helicopter mission to rescue Navy SEALs.
The Shepaug Valley High School graduate pitched the Spartans to a Class S State Baseball Championship in 1987. Shepaug and its baseball program remain reverent to Stephen's sacrifice and legacy - annually presenting the Stephen Reich Memorial Award to a Shepaug senior. The program also stays connected to the Reich Family with Stephen's father Ray serving as the longtime scorekeeper (and so much more). @TheShepaugSprtn #ctbase @ArmyWP_Baseball@GoArmyWestPoint@MilitaryCooI@Region12Schools
