Over the last 6 years, I’ve profiled fourteen organizations combating veteran suicide in non-traditional ways. As many of you know, thousands of vets take their own lives every year, and I’ve tried to use my platforms and shows to call attention to myriad bottom-up solutions helping these troubled men and women. Among the more memorable efforts, was a program in South Florida that took vets on python hunts in the Everglades, and a garage in Indiana that taught veterans how to repair and rehabilitate old motorcycles. All of these initiatives worked to varying degrees, thanks to a few devoted individuals committed to ending the scourge of veteran suicide. But no one has come close to the success rate currently enjoyed by Steve Hotz, the man behind The Blackhorse Forge.
Long story short, Steve came home from the wars battered and broken. Countless jumps from airplanes had compressed his spine, and a battlefield injury cost him an eye. At his lowest point, desperate for some kind of emotional relief, he started working with an old forge, hammering chunks of metal into something useful. The work provided a kind of relief he couldn’t get from traditional therapy, and soon, Steve was hooked. So, he opened his forge to veterans in distress and built a community. When I met him, several months ago, 22,000 vets had come through The Blackhorse Forge – many as battered and broken as he once was. As of today, there have been zero suicides.
That’s simply astonishing, and proof positive that there ought to be a Blackhorse Forge in every town.
Please give this episode a look, and if you agree, share the hell out of it. https://t.co/ZVSQdLMfTj

If you didn’t show up, who would miss you and why? If you didn’t show up on Saturday, would we miss you? And if so, why?
The same goes for life. It’s your choice.

Want to see something stunningly beautiful? Google WW1 Memorial, @SabinHoward, and check out the new sculpture that will soon appear at Pershing Park in Washington DC. It’s a monument in bronze, with 38 individual characters depicting “A Soldier’s Journey.” To say its undertaking was ambitious, would be an understatement. The story of how Sabin won the competition to spend more than a few years bringing his vision to life is remarkable, and I was honored to hear all about it firsthand.
Sabin Howard, for the uninitiated, is a sculptor whose artistic work is unexampled today. He’s often referred to as a modern-day Michelangelo, although, to his credit, he blushed when I pointed that out, in a conversation I’m pleased to share with all of you. You can listen to it here https://t.co/0lJ14mBUQb on your favorite podcast app.
You don’t need to be an art aficionado, or a collector, to appreciate what Sabin has accomplished. And you don’t need to be a patriot to see how deeply this guy loves America - maybe more than he loves the art to which his life is dedicated. Fascinating man. Great conversation. Enjoy.
Elon Musk is like a modern-day Bruce Wayne—no BS, completely transparent, and knows how to get things done. You might not like his communication style, but you can’t argue with his results.
If we had more leaders like Elon in government, we wouldn’t be as divided, and this country would be in a much better place.
