I don't have great ideas for kids staying afterschool and traveling in neighborhoods that don't feel safe for them. But there are ways to make this type of schedule work.
Announcing this without an engagement process was a horrible decision.
That said, I went to a high school on staggered scheduling due to overcrowding. As a 9th grader, the 9am to 4pm schedule was A DREAM!
Changes coming to #PHLed HS start times, moving later to 9 a.m. this fall. It's good for teen sleep and development, but some worry about unintended consequences. Story: https://t.co/h18jFneT2l
We also had a co-op program for students whoneeded to work. As long as you had proof of employment and were taking clauses required to graduate, you had an early dismissal.
NEW: Add three more schools, Wagner Middle, Anne Frank Elem. and Northeast Community Propel Academy, to the @PHLSchools going virtual. The District is now promising daily updates on in-person learning at 4p and 10p after catching heat for its 11th-hour announcement last night.
@MichaelinPHL @LauraBoyce215@PHLschools This might be up to principals (it shouldn't be on them). I've seen info from one school that says to call SDP if you don't have a chromebook. But that's it.
77 SDP schools will temporarily shift to 100% virtual learning January 4 through at least January 7, 2022. All other District-led schools will be open for in-person learning. Visit https://t.co/Mj4UcWC7Bm for more details.
@APPSphilly Not sure why he would say this. The Lindy family funds the Lindy Center at Drexel, but to my knowledge the foundation is run by the family, not the university. (I could be wrong, but I'm fairly confident in this logic).
