"THE HISTORIC HAJJ TRIP OF ALHASSAN DANTATA

The first prominent Nigerian to perform the Hajj by sea was The Emir of Katsina Muhammadu Dikko in 1921.

The second was Alhaji Alhassan Dantata, reputed to be the wealthiest man then in the West African sub-region. The richest Black man in the world today, Aliko Dangote is his great-grandson.

On 1/4/1927, Alhassan Dantata left Kano with the following entourage:

2. Yusuf, his younger brother
3. Adamu Bagwanje, his in-law
4. Bashari, his in-law
5. Abubakar, his in-law
6. Barau, his in-law
7. Abdulmumin, his in-law
8. Malam Madu, his close friend

12. Malam Abubakar, his teacher
13. Malam Umaru, Babban Malami na Madabo, his teacher

The entourage left Kano by rail to Lagos, then drove to Tema, Gold Coast (Ghana).

On 7/4/1927, they left Tema and arrived Liverpool port, United Kingdom on 21/4/1927 after 14 days at sea. They were received on arrival by officials of the Department of Colonial Affairs as well as Alhaji Alhassan's business partners (London and Kano Commercial Company). They rested at a comfortable lodge at Liverpool for one day.

The team left Liverpool and arrived London on 22/4/1927. King George V, father of Queen Elizabeth the Second (the princess was only one year old then) granted them a royal reception and accommodated them at the Buckingham Palace for two days.

They left London on 24/4/1927 for Marseille, France. They rested there for several days.

They left France by sea and arrived Cairo, Egypt on 7/5/1927. The following day, they left Cairo for Port Tawfeeq, Egypt, boarded a ferry and arrived Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, where they rested for two days.

On 16/5/1927, they put on their white shroud (ihram), left Jeddah for Makkah riding camels. On arrival, they performed Umrah even before lodging. An account says on sighting the Holy Ka'ba for the first time, Alhaji Alhassan broke into tears of joy, having fulfilled his life's ambition.

He donated a substantial amount of money to the Saudi authorities to assist in maintaining the Holy Mosque. He also made a grant to AIN ZUBAIDA, a charitable organization responsible for supplying drinking water to pilgrims and helping the needy.

After completing their Umrah and resting for 15 days at Makkah, they left for Madinah, a journey that took them two days. They visited the Holy Prophet's Mosque for one week, then returned to Makkah to await the time for the Hajj proper.

After completing the Hajj, Alhaji Alhassan asked for a list of all Nigerian pilgrims who had no means of returning home. 430 stranded pilgrims were identified and he paid for the passage of all of them.

The entourage returned to Madinah where Alhaji Alhassan assembled teachers and scholars at the Holy Prophet's Mosque for fervent prayers and Quranic recitation, after which he distributed charity to the needy. They left Madinah for Jeddah.

On 25/6/1927, they bade farewell to Saudi Arabia, left Jeddah by ferry to Port Tawfeeq, Egypt then drove to Alexandria in North Egypt. Then they left by sea to Marseille, France and proceeded to Liverpool, UK where they stayed for nine days conducting business transactions.

On 20/7/1927, the pilgrims left Liverpool and arrived Lagos, Nigeria on 5/8/1927, after 16 days at sea. They rested a few days there.

The entourage arrived Kano by train safely on 11/8/1927, concluding a journey of faith they started from 1/4/1927 to 11/8/1927 (131 days). In today's parlance, one would say they traversed Nigeria, Benin, Togo, Ghana, Atlantic Ocean, Canary Islands (Spain), Madeira (Portugal), UK, English Channel, France, Egypt, Red Sea, Saudi Arabia (a minimum of 10 countries & 3 seas).

May Allah have accepted their gigantic sacrifice by rewarding them with al-Firdaus, along with us too, amin."

Those of you celebrating that the plot of land given to Tijjaniyya at ATBU had been revoked are ignorantly ill-informed about the new regulations currently in force.

Under the new framework, Tijjaniyya adherents have been granted unhindered access to conduct their Friday Zikr and daily Wazifa within the central mosque. Ironically, what was distantly taken away from us has now become an epicenter of our daily spiritual activities. As the saying goes, April showers bring May flowers.

The mosque has literally become ours with an Izala Sheikh offering prayers. The irony is profound, those celebrating what they perceive as our loss may eventually discover that the punchline rests squarely on them.

Wife in an angered tone: 4 hours ago? And you don't call?

Husband: I was tired so decided to take a nap.

Wife: A few minutes wouldn't have hurt you if you were to call me and let me know you'v arrived... Plus haven't you heard the phone ringing over and over again as I was calling you..??

Wife: And you don't pick up..?? What are my calls not important enough for you..??

Husband: You're calls are important to me, but yesterday you didn't seem to mind not answering the calls of Athan.. Allah's call...

Husband: Why are you apologizing to me? You should seek Allah's forgiveness and don't repeat the same mistake twice. All what I want out of this world is that Allah unites us both in a palace in Jannah where in it we can start our eternal life together. Ever since that day the wife never delayed any of her prayers.

OPINION: If Plateau’s Illegal Arms Factories Belonged to Fulani Militias, the World Would Be Burning

The discovery of another illegal arms factory in Plateau State should have shaken the conscience of the nation. But it did not. Not because the development was insignificant, but because it did not fit the preferred narrative carefully marketed for years by crisis merchants, foreign lobbyists, and politically interested actors feeding off the Plateau conflict.

Imagine for a moment if troops had uncovered three illegal arms factories operated by Fulani militias in their harmlet in Plateau within three weeks. Imagine if security forces had recovered fabricated AK-47 rifles, welding machines, recoiling springs, ammunition shells and weapon components from settlements associated with Fulani groups. By now, international media would be flooded with headlines screaming “genocide.” Foreign NGOs would issue emergency alerts. U.S. lawmakers would hold hearings. Social media activists would demand sanctions on Nigeria. Naked women and youths would occupy streets in Jos. Protesters would occupy the streets of Abuja, Washington and London. Religious organisations would organise prayer marches and global petitions. Every recovered rifle would become proof of an alleged grand conspiracy to wipe out Christians.

But reality can be inconvenient. Troops of Operation Enduring Peace (OPEP) raided illegal arms manufacturing sites in Vom, Jos South LGA, and arrested five suspects linked to Berom militia networks. Recovered from the factories were fabricated AK-47 rifles, weapon skeletons, revolver components, magazines, welding machines and industrial tools used for weapon production. This was not a rumour. This was not social media speculation. These were physical weapons recovered by troops during a live operation.

Yet the silence has been deafening. No outrage from the usual activists. No emergency press conferences. No sermons condemning the proliferation of illegal arms within Plateau communities. No viral hashtags. No candlelight protests. No foreign NGO reports warning about ethnic militias manufacturing weapons. The same voices that quickly amplify every allegation against Fulani groups suddenly developed selective blindness.

This is the uncomfortable truth many do not want discussed openly: Plateau’s crisis is no longer a simplistic black-and-white story of innocent victims versus faceless attackers. Armed militias exist on multiple sides of the conflict. Weapons are being manufactured locally. Revenge attacks are organised. Narratives are weaponised. Communities arm themselves while simultaneously presenting themselves exclusively as helpless victims before the national and international audience.

And that is exactly why the crisis has persisted for decades. The dangerous part is not merely the weapons themselves. The dangerous part is the ecosystem protecting the narrative. An ecosystem where facts are filtered through ethnicity and religion before they are accepted. An ecosystem where the deaths of some victims generate global outrage while the deaths of others barely earn a mention. An ecosystem where propaganda travels faster than truth.

Over the past months, security operations in Plateau have exposed repeated evidence of armed local militias, reprisal cells, illegal weapon possession, and coordinated attacks hidden beneath carefully crafted emotional narratives. Troops have recovered weapons from local youths. Active shooters were seen in viral videos previously circulated as evidence of “attacks.” Security personnel have repeatedly intervened to stop reprisals between communities. Yet these realities rarely make international reports because they complicate the preferred storyline.
