I understand why the school doesn’t want to recognize how the university came about for the reason that Douglas was a slave owner, but they should recognize that the slaves made the university what it is today because of their work #AuburnWorldHistory
It’s sad the African American slaves in Lawrence, Mississippi were the ones who funded the University of Chicago because of the plantations. But they weren’t recognized because Douglas did a wrong thing. #AuburnWorldHistory
It’s crazy how Douglas was able to just inherit all that money from his wife’s family and how easily it seemed he got away with owning that planation while still gaining fortune in Chicago. Especially since they didn’t allow plantations with slaves. #AuburnWorldHistory
I like how Harvey brings up events from the past and present to compare concepts. “I don’t think capitalist class solidarity today is what it was”. It’s interesting to see how many tendencies stay the same, but many change as well. #AuburnWorldHistory
I found the part when Harvey said “you can look at a map of the world and watch the crisis tendencies move around. Thinking about neoliberalism is helpful to understand” very interesting. #AuburnWorldHistory
I always find concepts in history like neoliberalism and capitalism sometimes hard to grasp the actual meaning. When explaining these concepts people always use examples and not just straightforward explanation. #auburnworldhistory
Imagine if the US or Russia really started using nuclear weapons during the Cold War. I think our world would be completely different today. #AuburnWorldHistory
It’s funny how today some people think our own governments listening to us through radios and phones, but back then during this time they thought other countries were listening to spy. #AuburnWorldHistory
Quao talks about how the Berlin Conference does everything different because they are Africans. An example was they couldn’t trade with each other, only with other countries that would charge they way more for things because they could. #AuburnWorldHistory
Quao questioned how the mistreatment even started and why people even started treating black people bad. I question this all the time as well. Like where did the idea that black people should be treated bad just because they are black? It doesn’t make sense. #AuburnWorldHistory
“We Want to Set the World on Fire” talks about trying ways to make people see the struggle and unfair treatment. Change was needed and still is. We need to speak up and make a difference. #AuburnWorldHistory
During this time it would’ve been really hard to be black and a women. These two characteristics weren’t treated right and having both traits would’ve made things even more rough. #AuburnWorldHistory
Moody said African Americans “must be our own physician to effect a healing of that wound”. I believe it’s not just their jobs to fix the world of hate towards them. It has to be everyone pushing towards that change. #AuburnWorldHistory
