The poverty rate for Americans 65 and older is just over 10%, or 2.5 points lower than the national average. Michigan ranks in the middle, with 8% to 9.9% of our seniors living in poverty. The poorest seniors and children are in the south.

Medicare Open Enrollment is just around the corner. And that means the flood of Medicare health and drug plan marketing. Medicare has marketing rules on what plans can and cannot do. If you see any of these red flags, contact MMAP, Michigan's SMP at 800-803-7174.
