We don't have a country here!
THIS SHOULD BE TRENDING!
Here is the riveting speech by Senator @CrystalAsige - nominated by the ODM Party to represent Persons With Disabilities (PWDs) - on the floor of the Senate today.
Now,wahesh, show us you can govern in good faith. Withdraw the Assembly & Demonstration Bill, the Public Order Act 2024 amendments and mavulture-friendly changes to the Conflict of Interest Bill. Urgently reconstitute IEBC. Be servants not rulers. And STOP OVERLAPPING IN TRAFFIC!
An open letter to Gen Z and thoughts of marching to the state house is ill advised
I am the father of several Gen Z children and uncle to many. 3 of them were active in these protests. Gen Z, we salute you. Your actions led to a complete rejection of the unpopular Finance Bill. Good people—that's a major win in that people's voices is what counts and matters.
Now any talk of marching to the state house is ill advised and equally dangerous. Majority of you voted for the current government and in my previous post i did not hesitate to remind H.E The President about this simple fact. Well some things some things may not have gone as promised, but we have a clear constitution on how to remove an elected leader, be it an MP, a governor, or even a president.
Kenya is special. Kenya is not your ordinary African country. Kenya is a land of rule of law. Any march to the state house with a view of removing a duly elected government is considered a coup, and it will not end well.
I may not know everything as a Gen Xer, but I do know something. In the art of war, there is time to attack, and there is time to retreat and restratigize
Please step back, you have the numbers. In the last elections, 8 million registered Kenyans failed to vote. It's sad that it was such a closely contested election, yet such a large number sat at home and refused to come out. I will not be surprised that many who never voted were also in the streets in the last few days. It is said that not voting also means losing the right to complain.
Please plan for 2027, which is only less than 3 years away, and exercise your democratic right to vote.
For now, advocate for the reestablishment of the IEBC as soon as possible, ensuring that we, as a nation, do not have to scramble at the last moment. Without a functioning IEBC, we will be stuck; hence, that should now be the focus of every Kenyan. Do you know that as things stand right now IEBC cannot handle any election and for me that should concern every Kenyan.
We have listened to you, H.E., the President, and you have clearly seen the young Kenyans. Please put your house in order; you have a lot of housekeeping to do. Stop wastage, deal with corruption. The arrogant advisors and close friends ought to go through emotional intelligence class on how to empathise with and pacify angry Kenyans. Enough said.
Finally, Gen Z, it's time to reflect. Let no one mislead you in marching to state house. We want you alive to vote in 2027, and you will decide who will occupy the house on the hill. Your vote on the ballot is better than anything. We did it in 2002 when we sent KANU packing in a landslide vote. We want you alive to exercise that right come August 2027. Imagine it's not that far; it's just around the corner.
As always, I choose to remain an optimist.
God bless Kenya 🇰🇪
When cops show up, to unarmed peaceable if rowdy protestors, in battle gear with water cannon trucks, and then 'manage' them with teargas, dyed water spray and rubber bullets, they make the picking up of stones look like a reasonable defensive strategy. #RejectFinanceBill2024
