One of my favorite things about living in Japan is the massive anime billboards at the train stations. Seeing your favorite character blown up to life-size (or bigger!) on your daily commute turns a boring walk to work or school into an absolute dream route😆😆😆

This is called a 'Mame-hon' in Japanese. 'Mame' means bean, and 'hon' means book—so it’s literally a 'bean-sized book.' And the amazing part is, if you look closely, you can actually read it!

• The overall level of manga has risen, making it difficult to compete with rough, unpolished works.

Data is revealing.

The average age of the JUMP debut mangaka is slowly getting older over 5+ decades. This is based off @managesan 's chart, which is not exhaustive, but still helpful.

My previous chart (in comments) showed that the most mangaka debut in the age group 20-25, almost 50%.

However, this is misleading, because 23 out of 66 total listed debuts (35%) happened in the 1981-1990 period. The younger age of the mangaka from that period pulled down the overall age numbers.

This chart more accurately reflects what age debut mangaka are at Jump over the decades.

- Average: the combined age of all mangaka, and shows the spread
- Median: the middle figure of the list of figures. This will show whether the data is weighted towards one or the other end.

ANALYSIS:
- The sudden jump in median age from 26 (2000s) to 28 (2010s) shows that age is advancing across the board.
- This means that the sudden increase in average age to 31 in 2010 is NOT the result of a small group of much older creators.
