#OTD 1863, Robert Gould Shaw led the 54th MA Regiment, the 1st Black regiment raised in the Northeast, to Charleston, SC and led an attack on Fort Wagner, a Confederate stronghold. Nearly 1/2 the Regiment that participated in the battle, including Shaw himself, were killed.
