This is kind of like when my friend flew home from semester abroad with all the steins they stole in checked luggage, and at the bag claim they collected a duffel bag full of broken glass
@AmericanGwyn Which isn’t to say that I don’t think it happens, or that it happened before Submittable and PayPal replaced snail mail and personal checks. Long ago and far away, I saw a stack of applications to a degree program meet a date similar to what you describe.
@AmericanGwyn Since these were print submissions, I assume these writers had wasted only the costs of postage and printing (which aren’t nothing, but). However, many mags now charge $3-5+ for online subs and $25 for contest entries. Rejecting paid subs unread is fraud.
Unless it’s to say “I am complicit, I am ashamed, I will no longer accept a dime from the NRA, and I commit no less than $13,647,676 to repairing the harm my colleagues and k have done,” sir, sit down and shut up.
Grief overwhelms the soul. Children slaughtered. Lives extinguished. Parents’ hearts wrenched. Incomprehensible. I offer prayer and condolence but know that it is grossly inadequate. We must find answers.
@calebscoville When I worked, I didn't mind off-hours emails from my manager (or anyone) to me only, but group emails/chats drove me nuts. If I didn't weigh in right away, someone else would, & by morning I'd have lost the chance to influence the outcome &/or have a huge mess to untangle.
I likely lived to tell about all this in part because I am white & middle-class, with good insurance & access to care. My heart breaks that so many other moms did not, and still do not, have the same good fortune. 15/end
Unfortunately, all that surprises me about the rise in #maternalmortality during 2020 is that it's received so little attention before now. 1/x https://t.co/iVfoT4wnUp
I wondered: what about the moms of all those healthy, full-term babies? Did they have stories like mine? Were NICUs empty in 2020 b/c complications indicating early induction weren't detected & treated? 14/x
