Last week, the US, #Qatar, and several Persian Gulf nations attempted to activate the southern Strait of Hormuz corridor off Oman's coast without Iran's coordination, but were met with a response from Iran.
After suffering strikes on its bases in Kuwait and Bahrain, the US attacked Iran from its bases in Oman and Qatar in recent days; however, Iranian armed forces targeted the launch sites of these attacks.
Iran is calling on neighboring and Persian Gulf countries to prevent the US from using their territory and facilities to attack Iran; otherwise, Iran will target the launch sites of any aggressions against it.
Farzaneh Sadegh Malvajerd, Minister of Roads and Urban Development of the Islamic Republic of #Iran, participated virtually today in the #BRICS Transport Ministers' Meeting, hosted by India in the city of Nagpur, where she delivered an address.
At the outset of her remarks, the Iranian minister expressed appreciation for India's leadership of the BRICS Transport Working Group and for hosting the meeting. She reaffirmed Iran's support for this year's BRICS theme, "Building for Resilience, Innovation, Collaboration and Sustainability," describing it as fully aligned with Iran's capabilities and vision in the transport sector.
Highlighting Iran's unique geostrategic location, the minister stated that Iran is the only country connecting the three major Eurasian transport axes. She noted that through the International North–South Transport Corridor (INSTC), the East–West Corridor, and the Persian Gulf–Black Sea Corridor, Iran plays a pivotal role in linking the markets of Asia, Europe and the wider region.
Referring to the recent attacks by the United States and the Israeli regime on Iran's transport infrastructure, Sadegh Malvajerd described them as violations of the fundamental principles of international law. She stressed that despite the damage caused, all affected transport infrastructure was rebuilt in the shortest possible time, allowing transit operations along all international routes to resume swiftly. This, she said, demonstrates the Islamic Republic of Iran's commitment to ensuring the uninterrupted flow of regional and international transport.
The minister also outlined the strategic importance of the three major transit routes crossing Iranian territory, emphasizing that they provide Russia with reliable access to the Indian Ocean, connect India to Central Asia, the Caucasus and Europe, and offer China the shortest overland route to Europe. She underlined that all BRICS members stand to benefit from this integrated transport network.
Presenting Iran's vision for deeper transport cooperation within BRICS, Sadegh Malvajerd put forward four practical proposals: recognizing the Rasht–Astara Railway and Chabahar Port as flagship BRICS logistics projects; establishing a Permanent Corridor Coordination Council to facilitate cargo movement; jointly developing a Green Corridor and expanding cooperation in sustainable transport; and integrating multi-purpose corridors—including energy grids and fiber-optic networks—along major transport routes.
Concluding her address, the Iranian minister reaffirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran's readiness to serve as a secure, reliable and cost-effective bridge for BRICS supply chains across the Eurasian region. She expressed hope that the discussions in Nagpur would lead to concrete agreements and expanded transport cooperation among BRICS member states.
