Last evening, the 2026 Notre Dame Religious Liberty Summit concluded with the annual gala and awards presentation. Notre Dame Law School presented the 2026 Notre Dame Prize for Religious Liberty to the Becket Fund for Religious Liberty, a Washington, D.C.-based nonprofit public interest law firm dedicated to protecting the free expression of all faiths. Dean G. Marcus Cole presented the award, which was accepted by Becket president and CEO Mark Rienzi. The annual prize recognizes exceptional achievement in preserving and advancing religious liberty.
Accepting the award on behalf of Becket, Rienzi said, "Religious liberty helps real people, and it helps real people live out their faith... Religious liberty protects good things, and it makes those good things happen... It's a great joy and privilege for us to get to work on that."
"Thank you to Notre Dame, to the Religious Liberty Initiative, and to Dean Cole for giving all of us this tremendous honor..."
The Law School also honored Professor John Witte with the 2026 Religious Liberty Scholarship Award, presented by Professor Rick Garnett. The annual award recognizes outstanding scholarly contributions to the understanding and protection of religious freedom through law. Witte is a leading scholar of legal history, human rights, religious freedom, marriage and family law, and law and religion.

To recap. Democrats lost:
-White House
-US Senate
-Electoral College
-Governors Races
-Popular Vote
-Are on cusp of losing the House
If anyone really thinks its because 51% of the country is xenophobic—& not because Dems ignored their own base—it explains why Dems lost so badly.
Happy Diwali to all of our friends in India and around the world.
Here’s wishing everyone a joyous festive season, and a prosperous new year.
