Hi, π€
Iβm Dr. Ashely Alker, an emergency physician and author of 99 Ways to Die and How to Avoid Them.
For over a decade, Iβve worked to make public health education engaging and accessibleβthrough media, storytelling, and now my book. ππ
Iβve consulted and written for shows on Hulu, Netflix, Disney, and HBO, and founded Meaningful Media, a nonprofit that helps creators craft scientifically accurate stories. ππ₯
My latest project, π 99 Ways to Die and How to Avoid Them π, is a darkly funny, practical guide to surviving the most unexpected ways life can end.

Amazon cut 30,000 jobs & got a $7.8 billion tax break
Meta cut 8,000 jobs & got an $8 billion tax break
PayPal cut 4,800 jobs & paid $0 in federal income taxes
Disney cut 1,000 jobs & paid $0 in federal income taxes
Corporate tax breaks don't create jobs. They enrich the 1%.
Fun day in Washington DC!
I gave a talk on alternative careers and medicine at The George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences. I focused on my work with my nonprofit Meaningful Media, and how to use media for public health education as a physician.
I then met with U.S. Congressman Raul Ruiz. He is an emergency medicine physician and is doing amazing things to keep science-based health decision-making a part of our government's health policy.
Lastly, I stopped by one of my favorite DC bookstores, Kramer's, to sign 99 Ways to Die and How to Avoid Them. Get your signed copy at Kramer's!
We are now witnessing the dismantling of independent scientific oversight.
The President has terminated, without reason, multiple members of the National Science Board, the independent body that guides NSF and advises Congress and the President on U.S. science policy.

The hill I will die on - we have to rethink graduate training.
βScientists are trained for a world where data speaks for itself. Where misinformation moves slowly. Where scientific expertise naturally rises above noise. That world is gone.β

The doctor, who calls herself a "board-certified death escapologist," reveals common health dangers people may not be aware of and two symptoms ER doctors dread.

At least 88 companies reported $105B in profits last year, and paid $0 in taxes.
But Republicans want you to think someone working 40 hours a week for poverty wages, relying on SNAP and Medicaid to survive, is the problem.

If you paid even a penny in federal income tax last year, you paid more than:
Tesla
Southwest
Disney
Live Nation
HP
United
PayPal
CVS Health
Palantir
Citigroup
PG&E
3M
That's right. They paid $0 in federal income tax.
It's time for big corporations to pay their fair share.
