@sugggashane@NDiamondMedia If his average was .240 or higher he’d be playing well. He’s got a wRC+ of 61 and an ops of .602. All stats reflect that it’s been a bad season. I’m hopeful that he can improve, but that doesn’t mean you have to ignore the fact he’s been had, homers and steals notwithstanding
Storybook season for the Sox would look like Anthony coming back healthy and strong, Mead and Adley contributing in key moments, and Duran going on a tear in the playoffs after we’ve all been counting him out. Add that to Crochet coming back and that’s a fighting chance.
If the last two months break the Sox way with wins and health, I'd bet heavily on three guys injured right now taking their first three at-bats of the postseason.
L Anthony
R Mead
S Rutschman
R Contreras
L Abreu
R Rafaela
L Yoshida/Duran
R Story/Monasterio
R Durbin
@VuittonLou I still believe fully in Roman’s abilities, the only question will be health. Mayer had some clear holes pretty quickly even though I’ll still be rooting for him in SF and wouldn’t be shocked to see him put it together eventually. KC who the hell knows and I’m excited for Adley
The saddest part about the state of the Red Sox right now is that Fenway Park has been electric during this homestand with almost no on field reasons for the crowd to pop. Just a total offensive let down.
@_nateschwartz@OnlyCardsFans I think it’s an indicator for potential, but speaks more to ceiling than to floor. If you strike out >30% of the time, you really have to be an ELITE power hitter or play great defense or something. Plenty of guys with high bat speed across all levels who wont ever be avg players
@Nyanasaur@pnwsojourner His fastball heavy approach isn’t always the best approach, but calling someone throwing an elite fastball a gimmick is like saying that elite 3 point shooters in the NBA are gimmicky
@candanfield@Nyanasaur@MattCostello00 Agreeing with you here. I’m most impressed by him cutting down both his O-swing and z-swing. His swing decisions have gotten better and it’s turned him into a more well rounded hitter. His challenges are bad but so are the rest of this team’s. He’s not at all their issue in 2026.
@JustinMLB@TyBrandonn@JoseMP2101 I like the idea of sticking with him longer term but until they turn the corner and decide to sell, they need all the offense they can get. Pitching and defense aren’t the issue. May as well ride the Gasper wave until there’s regression or your turn into sell mode,
