I read this 8 years back and thought.
But yeah!
Long journey. 8 years!
But I am coming Australia.
8 years done. 9k miles is nothing.

2. USA first participated in 1974. In 48 years since, only THREE girls have ever made the US IMO team, taking 5 spots out of the available 300.
The UK first participated in 1967. 14 girls have made the IMO team (3 in the last 15 years), taking 18 spots out of the possible 356.
I missed Daria Grekova from the list because they had not published the name of the Russian students. Well done to Russia for regularly including girls in their IMO and IOI teams, and well done to Daria who is looking good for Gold after the 5-hr mark (halfway stage).
IOI'24 starts tomorrow in Egypt. 93 countries, 358 contestants, 17 girls. 95% boys, 5% girls.
Many countries have never sent a girl to IOI.
UK has sent one since it started participating in 1990. 33 years of participation. 131 spots. 1 girl.
This year's female participants will be from:
Argentina, Brazil, Cuba, Cyprus, Egypt, Iceland, Luxembourg, Nigeria, Macedonia, Peru (2), Portugal, Slovakia, S. Africa, Sweden, Turkiye, Venezuela.
All the very best to all of them!
Let's hear it for the girls!
Team UK came 16th out of 54 participating teams at the 13th European Girls' Mathematical Olympiad, held in Georgia. They brought back two silver medals and one bronze.
Congratulations to the whole team. UKMT is very proud 👏
Team UK on their way to The European Girls’ Mathematical Olympiad (EGMO) in Georgia.
EGMO is the premier European mathematics competition, made exclusively for high school female students who enjoy mathematics beyond the regular school curriculum. Good luck, girls! 👏
Congratulations to Aanya and Max for an impressive performance! @UKLingOlympiad BOTH have been chosen for the training camp, from which 4 will be invited to compete in the UK team in the International Linguistics Olympiad in Brazil. #AlleynsRespect! @AlleynsSchool@_JaneLunnon
One girl within the top 20 ranked countries (120 contestants) at the IMO 2022 and 2023. Fours girls in the top 100 at the IOI 2023. And now I have noticed that the highest ranked female chess player (Yifan Hou) is ranked #115 overall, so not even one in top 100 ☹️.
4 girls in the top 100 at the International Informatics Olympiad, from Ukraine (2), Slovakia, and Iran. Ukraine only country this year to send a team with 50%+ females to both IMO (4/6) and IOI (2/4).

@AlexanderGerko @veronica_humble May be less sour if the formula is pre-event formula - you know what exams carry what weight? We may not like it but it is a transparent process and tough luck. We are not that irrational.
@AlexanderGerko @veronica_humble I also prefer EGMO because EGMO team is selected using BMO2 scores, so is an objective and transparent process. While UK IMO team is decided by an individual speculating which 6 will perform the best at the IMO, so is a subjective and opaque process.
@AlexanderGerko @veronica_humble I don't know if I will be at IMO 2024 for sure. EGMO is good as even when girls make the IMO/final stages, we stuck as odd ones out and EGMO allows us to be ourselves. But I am worried if some countries are using EGMO as reason not to pick girls because "girls have EGMO now".
