Commercial plants in 1809: coffee, flax, cinnamon, indigo and tobacco. From John Payne's 'Universal Geography', printed down the road from us in the Coombe.
This is my favorite climate change chart. Japanese monks, aristocrats, and emperors kept meticulous records of cherry blossom festivals for 1,200 years and accidentally built the world's longest climate dataset.

🇮🇱🇨🇭 This Swiss commentator has balls of steel. While the Israeli bobsleigh team was racing, he kept reminding viewers of the war crimes the pilot has openly supported.
Absolute legend!
Unreal sized crowd for the There Is No Ceasefire @ipsc48 Dublin Regional March. Considering it's a rainy January I'm so impressed with the passion that people have #FreePalestine
As to the unsubstantiated claim that there are members of our Jewish community, 'whose families have been in Ireland since the 1600s', here's a brief overview. It is possible there were some Jews in early medieval Ireland, or at least Irish trained: Virgilius Maro Grammaticus ...
(1) A true hero.
Yesterday, I attended Pauleen's funeral. She was the last surviving woman from a group in the 1960s who courageously and secretly sheltered children rescued by a Dublin docker from Ireland's notorious industrial schools. Here is a photo of my brother visiting
A year has passed since the detention of my father,
In this white coat, he walked alone amidst death, destruction, and in front of tanks—not because he was fearless, but because his oath and his humanity were greater than any fear. He refused to abandon the children and the wounded at Hospital , and for that, he was detained.
This image is a testament to the courage of the man who was the last line of defense for life, and it is the very same scene that ended with his unjust arrest.
A full year of injustice has passed. Today, we ask for nothing but his freedom. Please share his story to keep his voice alive.
It is worrying to hear from older people and families that the HSE has again cancelled homecare visits on key dates this December. This is a recurring issue each year.
For many, these aren't just "check-ins" they are essential for medication, hygiene, and basic safety. If you have been told your care is being cut and you have no other support, you do not have to just accept it, try and fight it.
If the loss of care puts you or a loved one at risk, contact your Local HSE Home Support Office immediately.
State clearly that you cannot safely manage without support. Request that the HSE provides "Agency Cover" if their own staff are unavailable.
Be Persistent, Use words like "High Risk" or "Unsafe Discharge" if applicable.
Because this is an essential care need, I am requesting that the HSE source an Approved External Provider for these specific dates."
Without this visit, the patient is at risk of [Falls / Medication Error / Hospital Readmission]

Met him once in the Ha’penny Inn pub in Dublin. After a Socialist Worker meeting. He was with an A&R guy I vaguely knew from TCD. I saw him looking at the copies of SW in my hand & we started chatting. He bought a copy off me & said he sold it back in the day. A gent. RIP Mani.
Reading a book, 'The Londonderry Plantation'.
Then English view of native Irish has parallels with dehumanisation of Palestinians/ethnic minorities today.
The Irish were "generally denounced as barbarians, ignorant, superstitious, depraved, inveterate enemies of social order."
