Putting politics aside, I believe everyone from Oyo State can agree that our Local Governments must receive their allocations in full. Every guber candidate should make this a clear commitment.
Basic security, primary healthcare, primary education, rural roads, sanitation, markets, and other essential community services are meant to be delivered at the local government level. President Tinubu has reengineered our finances that made more money go to the states and LGs so there should be no excuse.
When Local Governments are starved of funds (almost all states and parties have been guilty) they are unable to perform these basic responsibilities.
The consequences are damming. Deteriorating infrastructure, poverty, poor primary healthcare and education, environmental neglect, forced migration to urban areas, greater vulnerability to insecurity and banditry, reduced agricultural productivity etc.
Strong Local Governments are the foundation of a strong country. They should be empowered, not weakened.

I met this young boy at the scene of the Bode Market fire in Ibadan. As he searched through the ruins, I was reminded that every disaster leaves behind stories of loss, resilience, and hope. May better days come for every victim. 🖤 📸
