With Canada's run now finished at this 2026 World Cup, what did we learn?

Well, it's multi-layered. And a little complicated. My final essay for @onesoccer on what all of this has been over the past six weeks --

One of my good friends on our High School executive runs a major club program in the Prince George and he’s awesome. Can we please get over the narrative that volunteer high school coaches are protesting against Club ball. It’s totally false. 90% of our kids play club at STMC.

[Aaron Mitchell @AARON_MITCHELL_]

What high school team have you coached recently? HS coaches don’t have an option to embrace AAU if they want or not, spring leagues are gone, soon as season is over kids fly to programs. To say they aren’t “embraced” is totally false, families can decide.

[Pasha Bains @DRIVEBasketball]

HS Coaches often complain about breaking “AAU” habits. Lots of time the opposite is true. AAU Coaches have 2 break “HS” habits. Lack of urgency, playing soft due 2 refs calling everything in HS, casual habits that lead 2 turnovers. Not pass faking vs pressure, not playing off 2.

It's TBI time! We unveil all 64 teams in the 2026 Tsumura Basketball Invitational's boys and girls Super 16 and Select 16 brackets this December at the Langley Events Centre! https://t.co/Cft3V5tjcc @langleyevents @steveewen @bcboysbball @AARON_MITCHELL_ @CoachEbe @sfu_mbb

Don’t be afraid to check Adam’s episode on @ahoopsjourney !!!

[Truenorth @Truenor23860723]

Adam Olsen is from Surrey, BC and started out his career with UBC. Father Mark also played at UBC and brother Thomas plays for TRU. Thomas is also this year’s Canada West Student Athlete of the Year recipient. Glad to see Adam in the powerful SEC Conference and maybe perhaps down the road playing for Canada’s winter core.

Also sending another congratulations to St. John’s very own Jonathan Kinman for receiving the Basketball Lifetime Achievement award in honor of the great Rich Goulet. Jon is in year 25 and has helped build the program to a 1A powerhouse, capped off with the BC title in 2025.
