The road is only wide enough for one car, so you’ve instructed the oncoming car to come through even though it’s technically your right of way. They’ve accepted your courteousness and here they come, driving towards you. Any second now they’ll give you a little wave. Or maybe they’ll just lift a finger from the steering wheel. Perhaps they’ll give you a full palm, or a simple nod, or the most confident show of appreciation: a quick flash of the lights. It doesn’t really matter, as long as they do something. They’re leaving it a bit last minute, aren’t they? At this rate they’ll be past you before they’ve even… NOTHING!!! THEY DID NOTHING!!! Didn’t even look at you! Just stared straight ahead! The audacity. Well, that’s the day ruined.

Might be an unpopular opinion but this is better than 30°C bright sunshine

Phrases that mean nothing will happen:

Leave it with me
I’ll have a word
I’ll see what I can find
I’ll see what I can do
Consider it done!
I’ll make some calls
I’ll think about it
Certainly a possibility
Let’s come back to that
Good idea
I’ll let you know!
We’ll see
I’ll check it out
Noted
Maybe
I’ll get back to you on that
Could do, could do…
I’ll take that on board
Let’s park that for now
It’s on my list
I’ll definitely keep it in mind
Watch this space!
Hold that thought
I’m doing it as we speak
Might see you down there
Text me the details
I’ll look into it

Britain:

One sunny day: Wow! Lovely! Everyone outside! Let’s barbecue everything!

Two sunny days: I could get used to this. I love wearing shorts. Let’s get an ice cream and run through a sprinkler!

Three sunny days: Please make it stop.

Pretty full, actually. Better eat some more.

If you’re getting on the train before people can get off, may all your biscuits be slightly soggy.
