It doesn’t take weeks. The part that takes the longest is transporting the ballots and flash drives (from municipalities that already scan the ballots) to Augusta and then securely uploading the data. They designed a process that’s a bit manual so it’s not connected to the internet and can’t be hacked which takes longer. Not defending it but that’s the process and it revolves around local admin station of statewide elections.
Can someone explain why Maine RCV counting takes weeks to count? Have they never heard of Excel? A middle school kid could probably design an app for them.
@mikeshepherdME@AnthonyMEmerson Your example would invalidate the ballot without giving additional votes to other candidates. The example I cite would redistribute the vote (assuming the #1 candidate is eliminated) to another candidate. There is a difference.
One difference - for those worried about election integrity - is that filling in the remaining rankings for the #1 candidate removes any possibility for someone to tamper with the ballot by ranking additional candidates after the ballot has been cast. (There is no evidence that it’s ever happened but some voter like to eliminate the possibility it ever could).
WGME debate recap:
-No Wessels/Charles
-Jones/Midgley endorse each other as #2 option for RCV
-Sharpest early exchange came when Mason challenged Bush’s outsider credentials.
-Tax cuts, healthcare and education were big themes

@stevemistler@daveweigel It’s a lot harder to gerrymander with just 2 seats. I’d argue they succeeded in making the Maine Senate map much less red and harder for Republicans to win formerly competitive districts.
Reply from the Collins' campaign to this post:
"The Governor’s lack of interest in prosecuting a fraudulently elected international drug trafficker is hardly a surprise given the lack of interest she has shown in going after illegal Chinese drug operations here in Maine."
Oct 2024. Eric Holder explains that his vetting of Tim Walz for Kamala’s VP didn’t miss “anything of substance."
"Authentic guy with a great record."
They knew about Walz.
Everything they said about this guy in the 2024 campaign was a lie.
1989. Joe Biden delivers a televised message from the Democrat party, calling on then President Bush to do more to stop the flow of drugs into the country.
In addition to calling for more prisons and more cops, Biden said that Democrats want the creation of a strike force to attack drug dealers before they reach our borders.
"Let's go after the drug lords where they live with an international strike force. There must be no safe haven for these narco-terrorists and they must know it."
Times have changed a little.
Jake Tapper: Why did fraud in Minnesota get so out of control?
Ilhan Omar: I think what happened, um, is that, you know, when you have these, kind of, new programs that are, um, designed to, uh, help people...I just think that a lot of the COVID programs...were set up so quickly that a lot of the guardrails did not get created.
All that hullabaloo about Tennessee going blue or something and the Democrat still lost. All the prognosticators will say ‘oh but the margins compared to 2024’ but it’s a special election both sides dumped millions into. Read into margins at your own peril.
Alternative headline… Republicans win safe seat in strongly republican district, dealing a blow to the false narrative peddled by the mainstream media that “the left is unstoppable because…. Trump”
